Medlar, Marron

(Mespilus germanica) Marron™  bears abundant harvests of 2' fruits that are as uniquely tasty as they are looking. Marron is a naturally small tree, growing only 8-10 feet at maturity and is self-fertile, so you only need one tree to get fruit! And these trees were fruiting even when in gallon pots in the nursery so will be an early producer for you.
 
This unique fruit ripens in late fall/winter here in our maritime PNW climate and is winter hardy. Medlar fruit is harvested and eaten when bletted, or fully ripe, and will have the texture and taste of spiced applesauce. Medlar likes half day to full sun and well-drained soil. Could also grow well in a large container. This tree will be a unique addition to your Seattle area edible food forest!
