(Mespilus germanica) This Oregon State University bred variety is naturally dwarfing, growing only 6-8 feet tall and perfect addition to your urban food forest and landscape, and grows abundant crops of sweet, medium sized fruits ripening in late fall/winter here in the maritime NW climate. The trees in the nursery were loaded with fruit while in gallon pots, so these plants will start producing for you the first year.
Medlar fruit is eaten when soft-ripe, when it has the texture and taste of spiced applesauce. Medlar likes half day to full sun and well-drained soil, is self-fertile and is hardy to -25°F. And, the foliage on the medlar will add a tropical vibe to your landscape!
