Viola tricolor: Aka Johnny Jump Ups. Annual, but self seeding/spreading form, useful as a ground cover between other taller plants. Edible "smiling" flowers come in various colors - perfect for many culinary uses including candy coating for cake decorating! This wild violet is loved in gardens all over the world and once established, can spread rapidly. Growing to be only 4-12” tall, this is a staple at the edge of the meadow or underneath trees. If planted in partial shade, Johnny Jump Ups can bloom all season long.
